Change

Over the years of teenage existence I’ve realized one important thing: people change, some for better and some for worse. During my lifetime though, I think I’ve been exposed to the latter more often than not. To change is a natural thing, for most it is a sign of growth and maturity yet overwhelmingly I find that most people change and they become something that they are better than. It’s a hard thing to come to terms with on your own, that’s why it’s usually others around you who notice first and thus ultimately them who suffer the most. I’ve seen so many friends past and present change themselves, how they act, view the world and treat themselves and others that I have no faith in anybody anymore. I have lost faith in the idea that people can mature without compromising a part of themselves that makes them unique from others. This uniqueness is what I like to call a constant, it can be anything from a personality trait to a person’s level headedness, ideologies or ability to stay grounded in reality. Its definition is ultimately socially constructed by you. This is why when I meet new people I always wonder who they really are because I don’t believe anything I see.
