Wilco (The Album)

Wilco's 7th studio album Wilco (The Album) comes out on June 30th. I am especially excited as Jeff Tweedy has stated this album is going to be more like YHF. You can listen to the whole album on their site. It leaked on May 13th, and while I am currently downloading it I am most definitely going to go out and purchase it. I also just checked their show page on their site and they don't have any summer shows in Toronto to promote their new album, what is that?!?! Last time they came here they opened for Neil Young. Ughh, they better not come in the winter, worst weather to see bands that make me think of summer.

Not at all up to their standard. Just listen to the YHF Demos/B-sides instead.

Yeah, definitely not as good as YHF but really, can anything they make again be as good as that album? hmm.

I'd prefer to lie to myself and think "Why not?"...though my heart knows better. Still, I'm kind of let down by this album. Lyrically not all that interesting, melodies are pretty bland and the music lacks much character. Not much energy, not much excitement. Even Tweedy's voice sounds a bit off. The only thing that makes it easier to take is the fact that I never knew it was coming, so I didn't have any time to build up any anticipation. Eh, 'Solitaire' ain't so bad.

I don't know - I don't think it's that bad. You Never Know and You and I are pretty solid tunes. Even I'll Fight kinda reminds me of YHF. I've only listened to it three times so far, maybe it's a grower?

Not bad, just unimportant/unmemorable. It doesn't seem like a grower either, just a quite addition to their discography. I think it was prematurely delivered, the songs could have stood more tweaking.

I'd say I'll Fight is more a spiritual sibling of Sky Blue Sky. Seems like a reworking of On and On and On.
